Part swap and warranty

Thinking about swapping out the resonator on my Dodge Durango. Any idea if that would mess with the warranty? Not sure how strict they are with exhaust mods.

I swapped out the resonator on my Durango a while back, and I have to say, I really love the sound upgrade. Just a quick warning though, changing exhaust parts like the resonator might impact your warranty, especially if it leads to emissions issues or triggers any error codes

Thanks to the Magnuson-Moss Act, they can't just void your entire warranty because of a modification. However, if any damage results from the mod, that particular part won't be covered. So, it's a good idea to run it by your dealer first

If you decide to go with aftermarket parts, make sure to choose something specifically designed for your model, and keep an eye on that check engine light. OEM replacements are usually straightforward, but they don't really change the sound much

Yes, @duralegend1263 is right, the act does protect you and realistically, a resonator cannot do much harm anyway, but it can give the dealership something to hold on to in case they need to service your Durango under warranty. With that said, some delaers are a bit more flexible than others, so I'd say talk to your dealer about this and see if they maybe have some suggestions about potential models.

Good question, swapping out the resonator can affect your warranty, but it really depends on what you're changing and how its done. @duralegend1263's right about that act. And that said, some dealers are stricter than others. If its just a resonator delete and everything else stays clean, most won't care. But if you ever have engine or emissions issues, it could raise flags.

As true as this is, I still wouldn't trust the dealer completely. A while ago a guy was telling me about a cold air intake upgrade on his Mazda that was still under warranty. The dealer said it wasn't a problem and it's all good. Fast forward a few weeks and the oil pump goes dead at around 2 years and about 20k miles. The guy goes to the dealership thinking his car is under warranty. Surprise surprise, the same guy that told him it's all good informed him that the warranty is void because of the intake. Last I heard he was still in a legal battle over this.
